Volume V (2022鈥24) of the Eastern Oregon Social Science Journal has been awarded First Place with Special Merit for schools with more than 2,500 students and Most Outstanding Departmental Journal by the American Scholastic Press Association. Produced by student editors Oreng Kikuo and Sara茂 Clunie Paul, the award-winning journal includes contributions from students in 91传媒鈥檚 English; Politics, Policy, and Public Administration; and Psychology programs.
Regarding producing the issue of the journal, Editor-in-Chief Kikuo claimed that, 鈥淭he Eastern Oregon Social Science Journal has been a fantastic introduction to the process of editing and publishing for me. Before the journal, I had zero idea about all the hard work, communication, patience, and time it took to get even one article ready for publication.鈥 Reflecting on her favorite part of editing the journal, Kikuo added, 鈥淭he most rewarding part of the job, however, is reading all the different types of research that the students are capable of pulling off: the content, the interviews, and research methods, the inspiration behind their subjects, beautiful artwork submissions, and all the students and faculty working as a team to decide how it will all come together.鈥
91传媒 President Kelly Ryan shared that, 鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled that the Eastern Oregon Social Science Journal has been recognized for its excellence. 91传媒 faculty mentorship of our students is among our finest assets; this award shows how we create experiential learning opportunities for students with the guidance of faculty to help them be successful. The student research displayed in the journal similarly shows how we enable students鈥 critical thinking and deep research to find solutions.鈥
