LA GRANDE, Ore. 鈥 91传媒 (91传媒) has named Darren Dutto, Ph.D, as the new Dean of the College of Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Health Sciences (STMHS), effective Dec. 2, 2024. Dutto brings many years of experience as a professor and researcher in exercise sciences and educational leadership to his new role at 91传媒.
Dutto has served as the Interim Dean of the College of STMHS since December 2023 and has been an active part of the 91传媒 faculty since joining 91传媒 in 2004. Throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in developing innovative curricula and fostering a collaborative learning environment that connects classroom learning with real-world experiences. Dutto also coached the La Grande High School Swim Team for many years.

Dutto holds a doctorate in Human Performance with an emphasis on biomechanics and exercise physiology from Oregon State University, where he researched biomechanical changes during endurance running. He also earned a Master of Basic Science in Exercise Science (Biomechanics) from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a focus on biomechanics from the University of California, Davis鈥. His research has spanned many aspects of movement including swimming performance, running fatigue, equine locomotion mechanics, and kinematics of piano performance.
Dutto has been an active member of the 91传媒 and La Grande communities for over 20 years. In addition to his coaching experience, he has played trombone for the Grande Ronde Symphony and Community Band Northeast. He currently serves on the City of La Grande鈥檚 Parks and Recreation Commission.
