Type of work schedule Varies. low hours Late Spring/Summer ; High hours before and during the beginning of fall term winding down to a steady schedule during the academic year.
Estimated numbers of hours per weekAcademic year – 3 to 5 hours per week with required training before the start of fall term.
Experiential Leaning:Peer mentors will develop these skills:
– Build leadership, communication, and helping skills.聽
– Gain experience that can support future employment, graduate school, or leadership opportunities.聽
– Complete a peer mentor training certificate.聽
Professional Development:Peer Mentors will complete required training before working with new students. Peer Mentors will receive ongoing supervision and support throughout the year through group meetings, individual check-ins, and leadership development opportunities. Training will include:
– Eduology Peer Mentor Certificate Course聽
– 91EOU-specific resource and referral training聽
– Inclusive mentoring practices聽
– Communication expectations and boundaries聽
– Supporting exploratory or undecided students聽
– Working with online students聽
– Event engagement strategies聽
– Crisis escalation and when to refer students to professional support聽
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Reach out to assigned new students before and during the academic year.聽
– Check in regularly with students in person and through email, text, phone, Canvas, and Zoom.聽
– Help new students learn about 91传媒 resources, events, offices, and support services.聽
– Encourage students to attend key campus events such as Mountie Days, Week of Welcome, involvement fairs, employment fairs, wellness events, academic and career exploration events, and other student engagement opportunities.聽
– Attend selected events with students when appropriate.聽
– Help normalize help-seeking by encouraging students to ask questions and connect with resources early.聽
– Support students in exploring goals, interests, identity, involvement, major options, and career direction.聽
– Make appropriate referrals to campus resources when students need additional support.聽
– Participate in mentor meetings, supervision, and reflection activities.聽
– Track student contacts, referrals, and participation as requested.聽
– Maintain appropriate boundaries and communicate concerns to the program supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:– Must be enrolled at 91传媒, attending at least 6 undergraduate credits per term.
– Maintain good academic standing.
