What is TRIO Student Support Services (SSS)?

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program that helps undergraduate students overcome the challenges of college and graduate from 91´«Ã½. Serving students who identify as first-generation, rural, and/or from underserved and under-resourced backgrounds, SSS provides personalized coaching, tutoring, and mentoring to strengthen academic and financial skills, clarify goals, and build confidence.

Through a holistic blend of academic, personal, and career development support, TRIO-SSS keeps students on track from their first term through graduation, ensuring every Mountaineer is prepared to thrive in college and beyond.

TRIO Services

91´«Ã½ TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) offers a wide range of resources designed to help students succeed from their first term through graduation and beyond. Every service is provided at no cost to all student participants.


Academic Support

  • Tutoring and study skills development in subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, and more
  • Advising and course planning to help students make smart choices about classes and majors
  • Workshops and success seminars to strengthen time management, note-taking, and test preparation skills

Financial and Economic Literacy

  • One-on-one support with FAFSA, grants, and scholarships
  • Information on financial aid programs and ways to locate both public and private scholarships
  • Financial literacy education, including budgeting, managing expenses, and understanding loan forgiveness options

Career and Graduate Readiness

  • Individualized career advising to help identify interests, skills, and goals
  • Workshops on résumé building, job searches, and interviewing
  • Graduate and professional school counseling — from exploring programs to completing applications

Transfer and Continuing Education Assistance

  • Help for students transferring from community colleges to 91´«Ã½ or planning to transfer from 91´«Ã½ to other four-year or graduate institutions
  • Guidance on admission and financial aid during the transfer or graduate school process

Personal and Social Support & Growth

  • Personalized coaching and mentoring for academic and life balance
  • Exposure to cultural events and enrichment activities that broaden perspectives and build community
  • Peer mentoring and leadership opportunities to help students gain confidence and connection
  • Support for students facing housing insecurity, including assistance during academic breaks for students who are homeless or in foster care or transitioning out of it

Community Engagement & Connection

  • Activities that help students build connections, a supportive community and study networks
  • Cultural events and celebrations that honor diverse identities and lived experiences of our students
  • Workshops and discussion circles focused on personal growth, well-being, and resilience
  • Service and volunteer opportunities that expand your networks and connects you to a wider community

TRIO Student Aid Application

As a TRIO Student Support Services participant, you may be eligible to receive grant assistance through the TRIO SSS program. Award amounts vary, but typical grants range from $500 to $1,000. This funding can help cover eligible student expenses and does not need to be repaid. Priority consideration will be given to applications submitted by Sunday, May, 10 at 11:59 p.m.
