Financial aid grants are often called \u201cgift aid\u201d because they are free money \u2013 financial aid that doesn\u2019t have to be repaid. Grants are usually awarded based on your financial need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I get a grant?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To get a grant, you must follow the steps to receiving financial aid<\/a>. If you are eligible for a grant, it will be listed when you review your award<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Types of financial aid grants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Federal Pell Grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A Federal Pell Grant is awarded to students who meet eligibility requirements according to federal guidelines. The amount received is determined by your expected family contribution and enrollment. Pell Grants are prorated based on your enrollment. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is awarded to Pell-eligible students with exceptional need according to federal and institutional guidelines. Funding is limited to enrolled students who meet 91´«Ã½ priority timelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teach Grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. Oregon Opportunity Grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Oregon Opportunity Grant (OOG) is a grant for Oregon residents funded by the State Of Oregon. The Office of Student Access and Completion administers the OOG and determines student\u2019s eligibility. In order to qualify for OOG students must: meet general eligibility requirements for financial aid, have no prior baccalaureate degrees, be enrolled at least half time, show financial need, and meet the application deadlines. Application deadlines vary from year to year and are dependent on funding levels. To qualify for OOG, it is best to complete the FAFSA or ORSAA in early October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant or Additional Federal Pell Grant Funds<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If your parent or guardian died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9\/11, you may be eligible for additional aid. To be eligible, at the time of your parent\u2019s or guardian\u2019s death, you must have been less than 24 years old or enrolled at least part-time at a college or career school. Payments will be adjusted if you are enrolled less than full-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children of Fallen Heroes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Under this scholarship, beginning with the 2018-2019 award year, a Pell-eligible student whose parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer is eligible to receive a maximum Pell Grant for the award year for which the determination of eligibility is made. All Title IV aid awarded to such eligible students must be based on an EFC of zero without regard to the student\u2019s calculated EFC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To qualify for this scholarship, a student must be Pell-eligible and have a Pell-eligible EFC (up to 5576 for the 2019-2020 award year), and be less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of his or her parent\u2019s or guardian\u2019s death. In subsequent award years, the student continues to be eligible for the scholarship, as long as the student has a Pell-eligible EFC and continues to be an eligible student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
